If you contact Indonesian Embassies or Consulates other than the Consulate in Darwin you may receive confusing advice regarding Indonesian Visa Regulations for visitors arriving in Indonesia by sea as most visitors to Indonesia usually arrive by air.
If you intend to apply for Social Visa you will need to wait until you get to Darwin to apply at the Indonesian Consulate there, because they will have a copy of the yacht's CAIT.
If you are not mentioned on the CAIT you will need a letter from the organisers repesentative in Darwin to be able to apply for an Indonesian Social Visa.

It is an Indonesian Government regulation that your passport must be valid for no less than six months from the date of your arrival in Indonesia.
Nationals from some countries do not require a Visa for a 30 day visit to Indonesia.
The following nationalities can obtain a 7 or 30 day "Visa on Arrival" Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxemburg, Maldives, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, United States of America.
A "7 day Visa on Arrival" costing $10 US and a "30 day Visa On Arrival" costing $25 US are available in Kupang. Note , This "Visa on Arrival" is not extendible and if you overstay the stated period of either 7 or 30 days you will be fined $25 US per day fine as you exit the country.
If your nationality is not listed as eligible for "Visa Free Entry" or for "Visa on Arrival" or if you wish to stay in Indonesia longer than 30 days then you must purchase a "Social Visa" at a cost of $60 AUS. These are available from the Indonesian Consulate in Darwin and will take 4 working days to process.
The "Social Visa" is for a period of up to 6 months, however it it is enabled for only 60 days when you arrive and must be extended for additional 60 day periods at a time, a least 5 days prior to the expiration of the previous period. There are charges for this of around $50 US per extension.
Remember if you plan to stay in Indonesia for longer than 30 days you must purchase a "Social Visa" In Darwin prior to departure.
