Darwin Information for visiting yachts
Darwin has a complete range of facilities servicing the marine industry including five haulout facilities up to 2250 tons, four chandleries as well as all the usual specialist marine service providers.

Before you arrive in Darwin
You should plan to arrive in Darwin at least 2 weeks before the rally leaves for Kupang to arrange your Visas, Duty Free Fuel, Duty Free Goods, Stores, Repairs, the pre rally barbeque and pre rally briefing etc. 
Yachts that are not Australian registered must check in with Customs when you arrive in Darwin. Email them at information@customs.gov.au or telephone on 1300 558 287. The tidal range in Darwin is 8 meters, go here to Download Tide Tables for Darwin.
Arrival in Darwin
Darwin is free of most marine pests such as Black Striped Mussel, Asian Green Mussel, Asian Bag Mussel and Aquarium Caulerpa. If you wish to enter a marina in Darwin the hull of the yacht may need to be inspected by a Government appointed Fisheries Inspector or Diver. The inspection service is free.

Anchorages in Darwin

There are two anchorages for yachts in Darwin, the first is located directly west of the Darwin Sailing Club at approximately 130° 50' and 12° 25'.
This is a public anchorage area and there are no set moorings, you are able to anchor anywhere in the area that is free.
The prevailing offshore south east breezes in June and July make this a pleasant anchorage but check the tides and depth before anchoring as the tidal range in Darwin exceeds 7 metres. Click here to download the tide Tables for Darwin. The anchorage here is good holding in mud. If you are living on board please leave your dinghy directly in front of the Sailing Club buildings and leave the beach area to the south free for the rigging of dinghy yachts as July is the peak of the sailing season in Darwin. Rubbish can be left in the large bins at the top of the boat ramp.

 
The second anchorage is located east of the Darwin Wharf area at approximately 12° 28 and 130° 51 there are no facilities close to this anchorage and it is exposed to the south east winds that prevail during June and July. There is dingy pontoon on the nearby wharf and it is close to the city centre.
The Darwin Sailing Club
The Darwin Sailing Club is located on Atkins Drive in Fannie Bay, Phone + 61 8 8981 1700 and Fax +81 8 8941 0580. Full club facilities are available including two bars, the Waterfront Bistro, gaming machines, library/book exchange, outdoor barbecues, shower and laundry facilities. Visiting yachts are most welcome and visiting yachts and their crews can register at their office for temporary membership.
Air travel from Darwin to Indonesia
Garuda has two return flights a week between Bali and Darwin, and the Darwin based company Airnorth now have two Darwin-Bali return flights a week and Darwin-Kupang return flights on Tuesday and Saturday, their number for reservations is +61 8 89 204001 or freecall 1800 627474 and their email is
reservations@regionallink.com.au however the service to Kupang is planned to finish at the end of April 2008.

Car Rental

They are the preferred rental car company in Darwin, offering the largest fleet of vehicles in the NT for hire, from small and large sedans, 4 wheel drive, mini buses and trucks and all at very competitive prices. Duty free Fuel
To take on Duty Free Fuel, take all your yacht's papers together with the crew's passports the Shipping Section at Australian Customs located at 21 Lindsay Street in Darwin and they will issue you the paperwork and explain the procedure to you. You can take on duty free fuel at the Cullen Bay jetty as you arrive in Darwin. Yachts cannot be refuelled inside a marina and this will save the extra time and effort involved in coming out of a marina to take on fuel.

Darwin
Accommodation
Darwin offers a wide variety of accommodation that ranges from backpackers hostels to five star hotels. As July is the peak of the tourist season you will need to make a booking, go to Tourism Top End for all details.
Transport
Buses operate from the city to all areas and rivate hire cars, taxis and minibuses are available 24 hours a day. Hire cars are available from Territory Rent A Car on +61 8 89240000.
Prescription Drugs
Skippers who require S4 and S8 drugs for their Medical Kits should submit their application form to the Northern Territory Department of Health Tel + 61 8 89228888. This permit can take up to six weeks to process.
Health and Vaccinations
In Indonesia Typhoid, Hepatitis, Tetanus and Malaria are common and in 2005 there was an outbreak of Polio in Java. Every crew member should consult a doctor for advice on the prevention and treatment of tropical diseases. The Travellers Medical and Vaccination Centre located at 43 Cavenagh Street in Darwin is on the first floor of the Cavenagh Centre and they specialize in tropical medicine and vaccinations. Spot On Marine
Located on Ludmilla Creek Phone + 61 8 8981 7481 Fax + 61 8 8981 2510 email seasbc@octa4.net .au.  They operate a 50 tonne Marine Straddle Carrier capable of lifting a  maximum length of 18 metres A full range of servicing is available including water blasting, anti fouling, hard standing for short and long term, outboard servicing and aluminium and stainless steel welding. Do-it-yourselfers are welcome and you may live on board while your yacht is in the boat yard. Spot on Marine are the NT agents for Evinrude, Honda, Johnson  and OMC outboards. They also service all makes of outboards.
Coringle Slipway
The Slipway Frances Bay Drive operates two inclined rail slipways with nominal lifting capacity of 350 and 80 tonnes.
